When is it available?

We’re delighted to be planning a fourth cohort of the New-to-Practice Nursing VTS Programme to start in September 2024. Please find information flyer for details about the programme.

NHSE recently announced changes to the national fellowship funding, which funds this programme in our region. The deadline for accessing this current funding is 31st March, and so in order to secure places on this programme we need to confirm expected numbers by this deadline.

If you think your practice/PCN are going to want places on this year’s cohort, please express interest here before 31st March 2024, to secure funding on the below form link:

https://forms.office.com/r/VRif6zr5Ae

Please include individuals you have already recruited, and any you plan to recruit in time to join the cohort in September.

Many thanks for your help in informing numbers prior to the tight deadline.

Eligibility is for nurses and NAs who are newly qualified or new to general practice within 12 months.

For any queries relating to the programme, our Programme Lead Deb Smith will be more than happy to help (debra.smith8@nhs.net) or for general queries the team would also be more than happy to help (training@haxbygroup.co.uk). We’re also more than happy to arrange a chat if you have any questions.

How long is it?

Two-year scheme for ‘New to Practice’ General Practice Nurses who are either newly qualified or new to General Practice and in their first year.

One-year scheme for ‘New to Practice’ General Practice Nursing Associates who are either newly qualified or new to General Practice and in their first year.

What’s involved?

The focus of the programme is to improve understanding and confidence in the key components of core General Practice Nursing as well as provide peer support and an element of supervision. The attendance would equate to a half-day session per week; however, some sessions may be run fortnightly over a full-day and some sessions may be self-directed. The weekly teaching will take place largely virtually but also some face to face when required. The sessions will be delivered by a range of professionals including GP Educators, Nurse Educators, Nurse mentors and also provide opportunities for peer teaching and learning.

What funding is available?

The teaching programme is fully funded and currently participating practices can access a bursary to support release of time for training, and mentorship time.
